ABSTRACT: The objective of this study was to evaluate the plant and fruit characteristics in advanced lines of Jalapeño pepper for mechanical harvesting. Thus, two experiments were carried out in the field. Experiment I (2015) was conducted as a randomized block design (three replications and eight plants per plot) and Experiment II (2016) in a completely randomized design (five replications and ten plants per plot). RESUMO Nos últimos anos, diversas cultivares nacionais de batata foram lançadas, tais como BRSIPR Bel e BRS Camila, como alternativas às cultivares importadas tradicionalmente cultivadas no Brasil. Avaliou-se o comportamento das cultivares BRSIPR Bel, BRS Camila e Agata quando plantadas em quatro espaçamentos entre batatas-semente na linha (15, 20, 25 e 30 cm) em um campo naturalmente infestado com Ralstonia solanacearum em Brasília-DF. O preparo de solo para batata no Brasil é geralmente realizado com o emprego de grade aradora (preparo raso), máquina cujo uso frequente estabelece uma zona compactada abaixo de 20 cm. Em tese, a descompactação profunda pode aumentar a produtividade e reduzir a incidência de doenças no tubérculo e esses efeitos podem variar com a espécie de gramínea cultivada anteriormente à cultura da batata. Onion is a crop of significant socioeconomic importance to Brazil. Onion germplasm with adaptation to tropical and sub-tropical conditions has played an important role in the development of this crop in the country. In this context, we studied the genetic diversity in a germplasm collection potentially useful for the development of cultivars for tropical and subtropical regions. A produção em escala comercial de sementes híbridas de cebola (Allium cepa) tem sido conduzida com o emprego de dois sistemas de macho-esterilidade do tipo genética-citoplasmática (CMS-S e CMS-T) em associação ao citoplasma normal (macho-fértil). No entanto, a análise molecular desses diferentes tipos citoplasmáticos ainda não está disponível para um grande número de acessos de cebola adaptados para cultivo em regiões tropicais. ABSTRACT Thirty seven pepper genotypes, Capsicum chinense, C. annuum and C. frutescens, were characterized for resistance to three root-knot nematode species (Meloidogyne javanica, M. incognita race 1 and M. enterolobii) aiming to find potential resistance sources to be used in breeding programs. Three experiments were carried out, in 2013, 2014 and 2016, in a greenhouse, in randomized block design and six replicates, one plant/pot. ABSTRACT Mechanizing the harvest of Jalapeño pepper involves changes in the production system. Spacings between plants in rows (10 to 40 cm; 60 cm fixed between rows) were evaluated in relation to plant architecture, productivity and fruit quality of cultivar BRS Sarakura during three years, in a randomized complete block design with five replicates. Productivity (41.9 to 78.8 t ha-1) and plant height (40.1 to 47.3 cm) responded linearly to density; on the other hand, productivity per plant responded negatively (0.48 to 1.04 kg plant-1).
